This object was created for the Typographic Postcard series. First, I thought I would print the cards with a gold foil finish. But in the process, it turned out that it was impossible to produce the cards with that precision using foil.
I had to come up with something other than “gold” that suggests congratulations, preciousness, and celebration. 🎉🎊 Confetti 🥳 came to mind. Since all typographic objects are in object frames or little cases with a glass wall, I imagined it to be fun shaking the object and the confetti, constantly changing to a new composition. A snowglobe or the works of Friedrich Friedl came to mind (who, by the way, was my typography lecturer during my studies). I think I never saw the compositions in real life, but I always imagined them to be fun.
When I looked into confetti, I considered store-bought confetti, but quickly realized that I could make my own confetti using a hole punch, which would further reinforce the relationship to the office space. Since I am not a regular confetti user, my first thought was about what colors to choose from. I went through various paper samples I had in my studio and decided to go for saturated colors with high contrast to each other.
I shook the object until I was satisfied with the composition and ordered the prints. A few weeks later Typographic Postcard #32 arrived. Here is what it looks like:
If I ever create a second edition of this, I think it would be fun to make an object with white copy paper confetti, emphasizing the series’ office spirit.
