Karl Gerstner: Designing Programmes / Programme entwerfen – Edited by Harald Geisler and Jonas Pabst

Karl Gerstner’s work is a milestone in the history of design. Designing Programmes is one of his most important works: in four essays, the author provides a basic introduction to his design methodology and suggests a model for design in the early days of the computer era. The book is especially topical and exciting in the context of current developments in computational design. With many examples from the worlds of graphic and product design, music, architecture, and art, it inspires the reader to seize on the material, develop it further, and integrate it into his or her own work. – Harald Geisler, 2007

The picture shows the cover of the 2nd edition from 1968. A personal note, written with a pencil from the author in german, telling me that “program” is the contemporary notation.

An evening with Max Bill
The University of Art and Design Offenbach assigned me to design a poster for an event commemorating Max Bill in 2010.
Slanted Magazine reproduced that poster in Slanted #14 “Grotesque 2 Quatation”. Issue #14 is focusing the usage of fonts without serifs.
