Martin Luther King Font Update
#38 - Vowel variations.
November 2023

Dear reader reader,
First of all, happy 2024π I hope you had an excellent start to the new year. May 2024 bring you many new fonts :-)
haraldgeisler.com -> handwriting.digital
The handwriting fonts have a new (digital) home. The digital handwriting font library: handwriting.digital was quietly launched to the public. By separating the font projects from me as a person and artist, I hope to bring more focus to the work, and grow the historic handwriting font projects into a sustainable business and, hopefully, one day, a cultural institution.
For now, the library is only home to the Martin Luther King font. In the future, the library will give access to all historic handwriting fonts, some of which will be free (i.e., the MLK Font), while others will be available for an annual fee to finance the production of new fonts.

The new version will appear in your font menu as “Martin Luther King 2023 December.” I recommend uninstalling older versions to keep your font menu organized. The next update will arrive in early February.

This update for the Martin Luther King, Jr. handwriting font brings variations for the vowels' a' and 'i'. This font is designed to have four variations for each letter, but currently, many letters only have one or two variations. Since vowels appear more frequently than consonants in words, having a broader range of vowel variations would improve the overall look of the font. In the following updates, I will focus on completing all vowel variations for the font.

I am experimenting with the design of the updates. Until now, I would package everything into this newsletter; this month, I am trying to put all the information on the new website so it is publicly available. And you can leave a comment on the update! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Lastly, I wanted to share that I launched a Typographic Project on Kickstarter, which is already funded! It is not about creating a font but about Typographic Objects. I am working with used keyboard keys to create objects and postcards. I have been working on this for a couple of years, and this is the 32nd edition of the cards I am printing. It's a fun project, and I hope you'll find it enjoyable.
